Calendar of CHA Events

Winter Show
January 31, 2015

Hamster Show at Griffith Park in Los Angeles (weather permitting, barring a major weather event). Come prepared for a joint hamster show and picnic in the park.  There are shady and sunny areas as well as playground equipment, and restrooms.  Bring a blanket and picnic lunch to enjoy.  You will want to also bring a chair to watch the show since picnic benches are limited and may not allow you to be close enough to see or hear well.

We will be at the Crystal Springs picnic area.  To get there, exit the 5 freeway and go west on Los Feliz Blvd.  Turn right on Crystal Springs Drive.  Continue past the pony rides, past the freeway entrance, and past the Merry Go Round turn off.

You will want to turn right into the park ranger station.  Once you turn in, the ranger station should be on your left and the ball field on your right.  Continue past the ranger station and keep going past the ball field and down the road toward the right to the lower level picnic area.  Look for us there.  Typically we have set up at the far side of the picnic area where there are a number of trees and picnic benches.

Pet Expo (CHA will not be attending the Pet Expo due to on-going problems the animals have experienced)
April
Each year the CHA participates in the America's Family Pet Expo held at the Orange County Fairgrounds. This event draws thousands of people, and is one of the best opportunities for educating the public about proper hamster care. This is a fantastic event with thousands of animals of all species in attendance. Admission fee is $13 for adults and $8 for children age 6-12. We invite you to come visit the CHA booth.  We're against the wall in the middle of building 12 in space 1316.

For more information on the Expo please visit their website

Spring Show - Pet Expo
April
Hamster Show at the America's Family Pet Expo. Orange County Fairground in Costa Mesa. This is a very special show because of the large audience, and is one of the rare opportunities where the general public is exposed to the idea of exhibiting small animals. This show usually draws a large entry and is a lot of fun for all participating. Each entrant receives one free admission to the expo. For this reason we have an early deadline for show entries. Entries received after deadline will be accepted, however free admission will not be guaranteed.

Entry Deadline - 5:00 PM Monday

Pet expo rules are very strict. There will be no buying, selling, or delivery of animals of any sort at this event. All negotiation of sales and actual selling and purchasing of animals must be done at another time and location. CHA will also not be selling supplies at this event.

Volunteers needed - Volunteers are always needed at CHA shows, and this is particularly true at the pet expo. In particular, individuals are needed who can answer questions at the booth while the show is taking place. For details email

Summer Show
2015

Hamster Show at a club member's condo club house in Westchester (near LAX).

7100 Alvern St.
Los Angeles, CA 90045

The building is called "Tremont", and there will be a sign above the main entrance (although it's slightly hard to see when you just drive by it), there are also some sales signs on the lawns that's hard to miss. It's directly across the street from "The Heights" apartment super-complex.

It's right off the 405 La Tijera exits, both north and south-bound. Once you're off the freeway, it's a left or right turn (depending on which way you came from) out onto La Tijera Blvd and an immediately left into Thorneburn St. Follow it all the way down, and the building is just slightly past the curving of the road on the right side.

There is a 40-space underground guest parking shared among the residents. There should be some spaces left, but no number is guaranteed. Early arrivals should be able to get a space in the garage, but others will most likely need to do street parking, which should be ok weekend mornings.

The garage entrance is next to the main door (it slopes down slightly) and has a keypad outside. Feel free to park anywhere once inside. The door into the building (there's a sign that says "Level 1. Welcome to Tremont") is to the right of the garage entrance. From there, it's only a few steps to the club room entrance on the left hand side.

If the garage is full and you are parked on the street and coming through the main door, the club room is straight down the hall once you are inside. It will be the first door you meet without any turns.

If for some reason you are stuck outside, feel free to text me at 562-735-7751 and let me know that you are a CHA attendee and I will go get you. :)
